One way where you can save money is being a repairperson of your own house. Jobs such as painting walls, remodeling, minor plumbing work, minor electrical work, and furniture assembly, it is practical to do it by yourself. We can do all these things if we have the tools and the guides on how to do it. There are many repairperson books available in the bookstore that you can buy. In addition, many repairperson tools are available also in the market. What tools do you need? Here are the basic tools that every do-it-yourselfer should have.

Hammer

This tool consist of a solid head, usually of metal, set crosswise on a handle, used for driving nails, etc.  A 16-oz. hammer with a rubber grip handle is what you need. This is more comfortable to use for long periods of time.

Saw

This tool is for cutting, typically a thin blade of metal with a series of sharp teeth. Better have the short one that fits in the average tool box.

Screwdriver

This tool is used for turning screws. You must have the flat and the star or phillips screwdrivers. There are some combination drivers that include a variety of blades that all fit on one main handle, just like in this picture.

Adjustable Wrench

This tool helps you a lot to tighten and loosen a variety of nuts and bolts.

Plier

This tool is used for bending wire, holding small objects, etc.

Drill

You need this tool for making holes in firm materials. Cordless or electrical will do. You also need a variety of bits.

Level

This device is used for determining or adjusting something to a horizontal surface.

Tape Measure

This tool is a tape of steel marked off in a linear scale, as of inches or centimeters, for taking measurements.

C-Clamp

This tool is a C-shaped clamp having a screw that is threaded through one tip in the direction of the other tip. This tool holds things that you are trying to put back together.  This tool comes in variety of sizes.

Utility Knife

This is a knife with a small disposable blade that can retract into the handle when not in use.  This tool helps a lot in cutting stuff like cardboards, paper, etc.

Flashlight

A small flashlight is important for all sorts of emergencies like blackouts, etc.

Plunger

We always use this tool in our restroom especially if our toilet is overflowing. Sometimes we use it in our sink if it is clog up. Choose the portable ones so that it is handy.

Lubricant

All purpose oil is very useful for all stuff. It can clean your bike & tools, remove grease, and lubricate locks, hinges, & all moving parts. It loosens and penetrates rusted or stuck bolts and plumbing joints. Also it removes paint, gum, rubber cement, stickers and other adhesives. I recommend the WD-40 brand.

Staple Gun

This tool is use for driving heavy-duty wire staples into wood and other materials.

Multi-Purpose Household Glue

Household cement will handle most things.  Problems on china, ceramics, glass, plastic, wood, metal, etc.,  it will tackle all of these stuff.

Electrical Tape

Electrical Tape and Duct Tape

Electrical tape is use for minor electrical jobs.  Used to insulate electrical wires and other material that conduct electricity.  Duct tape is also important, it can hold anything together.

Sandpaper

You can use this if you need some smoothing or polishing in your project.

Lightweight Plastic Tool Box

This box will hold most of the tools that I have mentioned above.

Excellent list. I did somehow manage to go more than 10 years of diy without ever owning an adjustable wrench though. I'd also add a good sturdy pencil to your list, for marking holes, level lines or cutting marks.

Good list of tools to have in the home. I'm glad I found a hub on home improvement that relies on one's own means. One really could save on house fixtures if we took the time and interest to learn what our homes need from us, instead of just thinking about what we need from them. Good hub. I'm into home improvement myself.
